Jordan Mugen-Honda 199 driven in Ireland
| |
Thousands flock to Mondello park to see the Jordan car put through its paces. | Former Grand Prix driver and long time Sportscar driver turned RTE (Irish TV) commentator, David Kennedy, enjoyed the thrill of driving the Jordan Mugen-Honda yesterday at Mondello Park. Kennedy drove around the Irish track to the delight of some 15,000 motor racing fans attending the Digifone Leinster Trophy Races at Mondello Park, an Irish track located 40 minutes from Dublin. ?It was a fantastic experience,? said Kennedy, beaming as he emerged from the yellow Jordan cockpit. These modern day F1 cars are extremely hard to drive ? I don?t know how the drivers manage to race them the way they do.? The Jordan car driven by Kennedy was none other than this year?s racing car which will run at the Nurburgring at this coming weekend?s Grand Prix. This was the first time a Jordan car has been run in Ireland and it was thanks to Jordan Grand Prix?s only Irish Sponsor, Esat Digifone, that the event was made possible. ?It has been the dream of our Irish fans to see the Jordan car race on home soil,? said Jordan?s Head of Marketing, Mark Gallagher. ?Yesterday, this dream finally came true. It was a fantastic day!?

FRENTZEN PUSHES MCLARENS
| |
Heinz-Harald Frentzen indicated that he will again be putting pressure on the McLarens at next week?s Grand Prix in Nurburging by setting the third fastest time of the day in today?s testing. His fastest time of 1.17.67, set at the French circuit of Magny Cours, was right behind those of Coulthard and Hakkinen. | Today was the Italian Grand Prix winner?s second day of testing for the Benson and Hedges Jordan team. His schedule included aerodynamic and tyre testing plus back to back runs to compare brake materials and steering geometries. Frentzen will now enjoy a well deserved weekend off before flying to Germany for the final European Grand Prix of the 1999 season.

Gascoyne delighted with Monza Win
| |
Senior Jordan management celebrate second win of the season. | For Eddie Jordan and his team, today's victory in the Italian Grand Prix has further underlined the progress made by Benson and Hedges Jordan in recent seasons. Mike Gascoyne, the team's Chief Designer, was delighted: "This win is ver special, perhaps better in many ways than the victory in Magny Cours this year or the win in Spa a year ago. We ran a good strategy and Heinz drove extremely well all weekend. We took the fight to McLaren and we won, so it is a great feeling. We have beaten Ferrari fair and square yet again, and that is good too - we have to keep pushing like this. It is also a great win for Mugen-Honda because this is a power circuit and I think they are very happy. It shows how much work they have put into this." Ian Phillips, the team's Commercial Director since Jordan Grand Prix was founded in 1990, said : "I have always dreamed of winning here in Monza. It's a very special place. It's the first circuit I ever heard about, and to win here in front of the 'tifosi' is something to relish. Fantastic." Trevor Foster, the Jordan's joint Managing Director said : "It's very satisfying. Heinz drove very well today, he did just what was needed and it's a good win. The whole team worked well all weekend." Mike Hall-Taylor, the newest member of Jordan's staff who only joined the Commercial Dept on Thursday last week said : "It's great to be part of a team with such great enthusiasm. This race only shows the promise of things to come and it's wonderful to be part of it and to have a win on my first weekend here!" The team is now heading home to Silverstone, where the trophies will be put on display for the entire staff at the team's headquarters to view. Preparations will then commence for the final race of the European season in two weeks time, and then the long haul events in Malaysia and Japan.
